THE MEETING

I met Uche UGO in 2021.

This was fate.

I was in Lagos in the last quarter of 2021 to get a redefined grasp on how money is made and spent, expand my horizon on brand strategy, communications, negotiations and ultimately personal branding. It was meant to be the time of my life as I camped for two days in Victor Fatanmi’s house and tagged along, watching his process with a side of vibes and insha Allah.

I had come from a meeting with my mentor and as at the time I was arriving, Victor and Bolaji were heading out to have a meeting with their legal aid at Ikeja City Mall (ICM)

Me: Can I follow you?

Victor: Sure, why not. But we are leaving now.

I stepped out of my bolt and into another.

After a short while, we arrived at ICM.

After a tour round the place and some side classes on pricing, we ended up with the legal aid as they talked financials over a bucket of chicken.

<Few moments later>

Victor: Is that not Uche Ugo?

Uche! He did not hear.

I stood from my seat and went straight out the door and approached a masked gentleman.

Hello, good evening,

My name is Tolu, Toluwase Olugbemiro.

Are you Uche Ugo?

Him: No, my name is Michael.

Me: Oh, sorry then.

My friends thought you were Uche Ugo. I haven’t really met him in person, that’s why I asked. I’m here with Victor Fatanmi and Bolaji, they recognized you as Uche.

Him: oh, that’s fine. so what do you do?

Me: I am a brand communication strategist, currently working at Wentors; a community that provides mentorship for women in technology. Recently, we launched a program to mentor 1000+ women across the world and we have a community of over 2300 women across 4 continents managed by me.

Him: That’s a good pitch.

(Pulls off his nose mask)

I am Uche Ugo, nice to meet you.

This is an experience that is forever ingrained in my mind. I can’t forget it.

Afterwards he took a seat beside on our table and I just listened to them speak about things and tease each other.

We exchanged contacts and that was the beginning of having the blue god of branding in my life.

BCP 2022

Uche Ugo is one of those persons that you’d want to know personally. One of such person that you’d pray to God from afar that your paths meet.

My prayers were answered and even much more, I didn’t just get to meet him, I got to see and experience him teach and share from his wealth of experience.

January 2022, as I put together my list of guests for Random Conversations, it wasn’t a difficult pick when I got to who’d talk on Personal Branding.

When the dynamics of the event would change, he was willing to travel into Akure as one of the headline speakers for Brands, Customers and Products.

Uche got into the city in the early hours of Friday April 29, 2022. We picked him up at the airport to his hotel room.

We had a conversation about the Akure ecosystem and the possibilities it holds, in the evening, we hung out with the Tri — bbe.

THE BLUE THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

Uche’s session was captivating.

He began with stories and led us through the importance of personal branding, unveiling how colors play an important role in our psychology as humans.

Personal branding is a feat that Uche defines as a journey that never ends. His takes and perspectives on questions asked during the event was insightful.

Uche brings home all your scattered thoughts and helps you find a unique definition to the thoughts and ideologies in your mind.

Uche is a veteran in the industry, has worn and still wears many hats. As Praise Philemon said, “He’s one to have in your corner”

He’s the blue that keeps on giving.
